Just a few years ago, Janet Yurcik was a flight attendant who would often bring in some of her mom’s homemade cake balls to share with her co-workers.
“Everybody would go crazy for them,” Yurcik said.
Soon she was taking orders on the plane. Things got so busy that she and her mother, Marcia Rehak , were soon running a home-based business.
Within months, the pair realized that they were generating enough interest to support a retail store. She and her mother drew upon their mutual experiences in retail management, bakery and candy to pool their talents and go into business together, opening The Cute Little Cake Shop in February 2011. Their aptly-named Strongsville bakery is one of only a small handful in the entire country that specializes in cake balls.
Citing the popular cupcake trend, Yurcik says that they wanted to do their own personal twist on cupcake shops.
“What if we did this with cake balls?” they asked each other.
