Holiday shopping officially kicks off

It's that time of year, when people make shopping lists looking for a perfect gift to give to a loved one or a friend. The choices of where to shop and what to buy are vast. For small business owners who are attempting to find, create and stay on top of the shopping trends, this time of year is exciting and takes extra planning.
''There are many hot items,'' said Bob Mills, owner of Mills and Company in the Don Rich Plaza in Windham. ''There are two areas where there seems to be the most growth, one is bakeware.'' He points out that popover pans, cupcake pans and tin baking products are good sellers. ''The influence of cooking shows has been huge on our business,'' Mills said. ''There has been a definite trend toward that,'' he said.
''Our population has aged. (Cooking) is a sport people can participate in and it doesn't hurt your knees,'' Mills said.
The other big selling item for Mills and Company is fleece sheets. ''We have been selling those like crazy,'' Mills said.
